Outstanding outcomes included 40% of grades at A*/A or Distinction*/Distinction, and 86% A*-C or Distinction*-Merit, with 97% of the students achieving three qualifications or better. ÁùºÍºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼ÇÂ¼ students have consistently led the way in Sixth Form performance in the borough since it opened in 2006 and this year&rsquo;s results demonstrate the hard work of students and staff at the Academy. If you haven&rsquo;t heard of it, this is where the British Intelligence cracked the infamous Enigma code to help with the war efforts in WWII. Students were given a tour of the historical grounds whilst also participating in their own code breaking activity. The students were taught some code breaking techniques and were also able to write their own code words using a real Enigma machine, &lsquo;worth half a million pounds&rsquo;. The purpose of the visit was to learn about medical technologies. Miss Malin&rsquo;s Year 10 Health and Social Care class went on an amazing trip to the Black Country and Marches Institute of Technology. The purpose of the visit was to learn about medical technologies. The day began with a tour of the institute; they showed us some of the equipment that they use for their courses, including a hospital ward, theatre room and a dental practice room. The Institute had then arranged a variety of activities for the students to participate in throughout the day. The first activity of the day was to check vital signs. One group of students used a Doppler to check their pulse rates on different points of their bodies. The students were able to hear each other&rsquo;s pulse rates on their wrist or neck. The second group used an Anatomage table to see vital signs of the heart. The table allowed the students to see the heart in different ways, such as seeing electrical impulses. The table also allowed students to see different structures of the body. Later on in the day, the students took part in an activity involving infection prevention and control. The first group of students used a UV light to find germs in the room. The second group of students put UV hand cream on their hands, then washed their hands, then used a UV light to see if there were still germs on their hands. This demonstrated the importance of hand washing and which spots are often missed when washing your hands. After this, the students were tasked to locate pieces of equipment around the Institute. They were asked to find the equipment, then find out what the equipment did. Equipment included wheelchairs, hoists, ultrasounds, and an operating table. During this time, some of the students were shown how to take blood samples from a patient. The Institute had a fake arm with fake blood flowing, so the students were able to use the real equipment that would be used by medical professionals. The final activity of the day was to work in teams to construct a heart valve out of the materials provided. The students had to get marbles to move from the left atrium to the left ventricle and they could not fall back through, using only the materials provided. These materials were things like tissue paper, lollypop sticks, cardboard. All students succeeded in this task! Overall, the students had a wonderful day. All Year 11 Geographers recently undertook at trip to Carding Mill Valley in Shropshire to investigate how a river changes as we move down stream. The visit is a compulsory part of their GCSE course work and the data was graphed and analysed upon their return and used to test their enquiry question. As well as a great opportunity to get out of the class room and do some &lsquo;proper geography&rsquo;, the trip also allowed students to work as teams, allowed some to adopt leadership roles and for all to develop their independence. The aim of the programme is to amplify young people's voices by building confidence, developing skills and creating a platforms for young people to share their stories and ideas.  A group of Year 9 students took part in the Speak Out Challenge workshop run by SpeakersTrust. The aim of the programme is to amplify young people&rsquo;s voices by building confidence, developing skills and creating a platforms for young people to share their stories and ideas.&nbsp; The students fully engaged in the activities and really impressed the presenter as the programme is usually delivered to Year 10 students. A group of Year 10 and Year 12 students who studied Media, visited Total Media in Tanworth in Arden, which is an international media group. Whilst there the students were split into three groups and along with a member of the team, had to plan advertising campaigns for certain products. At the end of the day the groups made their presentations in front of everyone. Students completed a number of workshops throughout the day which included marketing, branding, product design, journalism and sustainability to design their own Theme Parks in small groups. During these workshops students were able to use the newest software packages to present their product and help design a USP, take part in a press-release in the media studio, conduct market research through interviewing the public around the university campus and design their own range of iced slushy drinks. The range of ideas and imagination used by the students was phenomenal and the university staff commented on how well the students engaged and took the task seriously throughout the day. Students were impressed by the top class facilities on offer for studying on these courses in the Business school and the equipment they were able to use and experience.
